1987 View of Houghton Regis Upper School

A large school campus, playing area and sports centre for community use was built in the Parkside Estate. The photograph was taken in 1987.

The Schools were:

Brandreth Middle School - merged with Linmear Middle School, later the building housed Hill Crest School, which is now closed. With the closure of Brandreth School, the last link to the Brandreth Family in Houghton Regis was lost.


Linmear Middle School, after merging with Brandreth Middle School, became Kings Houghton Middle School and subsequently the Houghton Regis Academy, Part of the Greenwood Dale Multi Academy Trust. It was initially a Middle School but became a Secondary School in 2016 This school closed in 2023. A new sports hall is being built on this site. 

Houghton Regis Upper School - became Kingsland Community College and was closed by South Bedfordshire District Council on 31st August 1999. In 2012 the building was used by the University Technical College (UTC) Central Bedfordshire, which closed in 2016.
