Cyre Freeman

The Freeman family owned a windmill and later a steam mill in Houghton Regis, in the field behind Mill Road (now a housing estate).

"Cyre Freeman was of a strong silent type, this seems to be an accurate description of the Man, was related by marriage to Gary Cooper. These strong family characteristics certainly stood Gary Cooper in good stead as his rugged, cool manner made him a favourite of millions of film fans.
Cyre was a close relation of Gary’s father, Judge Cooper, but he had his own claim to fame. He could lift one hundredweight sacks (112 pounds (lbs) or 50.8 kg) of corn  in each hand. His strength came in very useful for he ran the old steam mill in Houghton Regis." - From a news paper cutting in the Evening Post/ Echo March 1974.

He was born in 1837 and died in 1917 aged 78.
