Undated Private and Mrs W T Higgs During WW1

Private and Mrs W T Higgs during WW1. They lived at 64 Hight Street Houghton Regis. When he returned for the war he weighed seven stones. He died in 1957.

He Served in the 2nd Battalion, The Bedfordshire Regiment.
Extract from the National Roll of the Great War 1914-1918:
Volunteered in December 1914 and was sent to the Western Front in the following August. He was wounded at the Battle of the Somme in July 1916 and was gassed at Ypres the following year. In March 1918 he was taken prisoner at St Quentin and was held in captivity until the following December, when he was released and returning to England was demobilised in March 1919, holding the 1914-15 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
