1916 Postcard from Bert Richardson Army Vehicles and Sheep on the Green

A postcard showing army vehicles, tents and sheep from Poynter's Farm on the Green in 1916

Postcard posted 26th September 1916, the picture shows army lorries and a tent on the edge of the Green. On the left of the photo is Tithe farm, with its distinctive chimneys, and the 14th/15th century Tithe Barn behind that. This rather idyllic picture with the sheep from Pointers Farm in the foreground. We do not know if the writer was a soldier posted to Houghton Regis; on the back of the card is an interesting account of a "trip" to the Tropics.

Bert Richardson wrote to his wife Flo:
My Dlg Flo Have been put on draft today so expect to shift in about a week. I intended trying for a weekend but no go now. Will write tomorrow & tell you about it. Thanks for letter. Tonight its fish chips.
All love Bert
