1860s Mrs Emma Jemima Barbara Brandreth

Mrs Brandreth sitting outside a window overlooking the garden at Houghton Hall, with what is possibly a bust of her husband, Humphrey Gibbs Brandreth beside her. The photograph was taken by C Norman of Biggleswade in approximately 1865.

She was born Emma Jemima Barbara Smith on or about 1819 at Plymouth in Devon. She married Humphrey Gibbs Brandreth on 11th July 1854 at Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire. She died at Houghton Hall aged 49, on 16th December 1868. 

Humphrey Gibbs Brandreth was born Humphrey Gibbs in 1807, but took his mother's maiden name by Royal Warrant in 1846, was High Sheriff of Bedfordshire 1849/1850 and died at Houghton Hall on 7th April 1864
