1900s Workings at the Lime Quarry Sewell

A view of the Dunstable Lime Company's quarry at Sewell in the 1900s.

The photograph shows horses pulling loads on the light rail track, to be transferred to the extensive railway sidings in the quarry itself and then to the main railway line.

The quarry was established by J.B. Forder in the 1800s and subsequently purchased by the Blue Circle Portland Cement Company in 1920.
