A poem written by Erin McGrath in August 2020 about her experience of the Covid 19 (Corona Virus) lockdown. Erin is 11 years old and is a pupil at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Warden Hill, Luton.
CAGED
It’s like a cage
Can’t go outside
Should I cry or be happy
I cannot decide
I guess it’s getting better
As each day comes and goes
Will life ever go back to normal
The answer no one knows
I cannot see my friends
I ‘m scared of what the future holds
Over the next few weeks
The answers will unfold
There’s lots of schoolwork
That I try my best to do
Nature is getting an advantage from Lockdown
Maybe we should too
There are lots of protests
Going on outside
But we’re still in Lockdown
So to the rules they should abide
As each day is the same
It’s getting harder to wait
It’s really boring
I often lose track of the date
I’m sitting at my window
Watching the days go by
Sometimes I wish I was a bird
So I can spread those wings and fly
