Nurse Daisy Cox was the much loved district nurse for Houghton Regis for 32 years. In January 1969 she retired after having delivered over 2,000 babies, several of them children of young mothers she had brought into the world.
Miss Winifred Frost, the Chief Nursing Officer remarked on her retirement that, "During those years she has mothered many young nurses, always shown willingness and faced any emergency on any occasion."
