The Government trained ex-Prisoners of War and wounded men before their demobilisation. WT Higgs became a shoe-repairer. He worked in the premises at the rear of a row of cottages near to the County Primary School, from 1919 until his death in 1957. The cottages and the school have been demolished and the school re-built.
