Special War Workers Taken from the Roll of the Great War

During World War 1 women were recruited to work in the George Kent Fuse Factory at Chaul End Road. It was dangerous work filling fuses with TNT. They were nicknamed "the canaries" as the TNT turned their skin yellow.

Below is a list of women and one young boy who lived in Houghton Regis and worked at the Fuse Works. They were called Special War Workers. Notes that three (including the boy) were from the Jones Family in Wright's Yard. The document records what they worked on and compliments on the good work they did.
