1968 Aerial View of Houghton Regis

An aerial photograph of Houghton Regis taken in 1968.

South Bedfordshire District Council Offices on Sundon Road are at the bottom left. Council Committee Meetings were held here, the Full Council met at the Bossard Hall, Leighton Buzzard until the Council moved to a new building, Watling House, High Street North in the 1991. Houses - Hammersmith Gardens - were built on the site.

The photograph shows the Tithe Farm Estate. The road opposite the offices is Leafields. The large building near the top of the picture is the Bedford Square Shopping Centre. The Blue Circle Lime works and quarry is at the top of the photograph.
