1916 Postcard "I am coming home by express from Houghton Regis"

In November 1916, when this post card was taken, Dunstable had two railway stations. One had been situated in Upper Houghton Regis and the other in Church Street. They had both been in the Parish of Houghton Regis until 1907.

This post card was addressed to a Miss Evans in Leyton in Essex. It reads:

"My dear Jessie and all - Just  a pc to say that I got back quite safely but it was a shocking night, poured all the way to St Albans. Then when I got to Redbourn there was snow up to the footrest. They had a regular blizzard. Today it is wet again.

I hope you are all in the best of health. It took me 2 hrs and 10 mins to get back, so that wasn't bad for the weather. I will write again at the end of the week. Best of love, au revoir, Colin."

From the reference to footrests we can assume that Colin was on a motorbike. Perhaps he was a despatch rider with the signal Corps.
