1910 Mr F Freeman Pratt the Butcher and his Family

Mr Pratt the butcher in Houghton Regis with his family in 1910.

The bicycle is suitably decorated to celebrate the coronation of George V. Below is a description written by Pat Lovering:

"This is one f my favourite photographs - a copy lent to me by the late Sonny Pratt. I remember sitting in the sun in his garden while he told me all sorts of stories about Houghton Regi and his friends of long ago. This photograph was taken in the same garden in Cumberland Street and shows his family ready to celebrate the coronation of George V in 1910.

From left to right in the photograph the photograph shows Sonny on the pony (looking a bit dubious about the whole affair, Mr F Freeman holding the bridle, Mrs Elizabeth Pratt, Sonny's Mother, and his sisters Grace Ellen and Alice. The bike is an absolute work of art and must have taken hours to decorate. It certainly beats half a sheep in formaldehyde.

Sonny later succeeded his father as a butcher in the village, and we still have the family tradition carried on in Dunstable. I am quite sure Sonny would not mind me sharing e this wonderfully evocative scene with you!"
