1969 The High Street Houghton Regis Looking West from the Church Towards the Blue Circle Cement Works

A view of the High Street looking West from the church towards Blue Circle Portland Cement works in December 1969. The chimneys dominated the landscape. The Cement works were demolished in the 1978 where the Townsend Industrial Units now stand.

The King's Arms is on the right on the corner of Bedford Road.

To the left of the photograph, buildings in King Street are being demolished to make way for Air Call, now a dental practice. On the far corner of King Street the Rhone-Poulenc depot was built, which was subsequently demolished to make way for Morrison's Supermarket.
