Honorary Freeman of Houghton Regis awarded to Roger Turner by the Town Mayor Cllr Elaine Cooper on 14th August 2024, for his extensive and dedicated service to the Houghton Regis community.
As a long-time member of the community, Roger served on South Bedfordshire District Council and the Town Council for many years and was elected Town Mayor twice, first from May 1991 to May 1992 and again from May 1998 to May 1999, making him the only living person to have held the position twice. Beyond his mayoral duties, Roger served as a Governor for the Luton and Dunstable Hospital and schools in the Town, and played a crucial role as a founding member of the Houghton Regis Heritage Society, leading it to achieve Registered Charity Society status. His contributions extend to various other community groups, demonstrating his commitment to public service and the betterment of the town. For these reasons, Roger was rightfully nominated and awarded the Honorary Freemanship of the Town.
