This was known as the "Soldiers' Hut". It was situated on the ground owned by the Crown, where the Bunch O'Nuts houses are now.
It was run by Billy Seabrook and his wife, who served fish suppers to the troops and, as the notice tells us, hot coffee half an hour before the first parade.
The soldiers were mainly the Signal Corps stationed in Houghton Regis for training. Houghton Hall was used for signals training during World War 1 and the soldiers were billeted in huts on the Green.
